Keeping myself up-to-date:
I'm a member of UX Book Club Sydney, a recently established group for user experience (UX) and usability professionals.
We meet every 2 months to discuss a book we've read. Our last book was Rocket surgery made easy by Steven Krug, which is a DIY guide to finding and fixing web site usability problems.
Next up is Prototyping by Todd Zaki Warfel.
I'm on the organising committee for Oz-IA 2010, information architecture conference in Sydney.
I attended the October 2009 conference and liked Matthew Hodgson's talk on Information Architecture tools for Web 2.0 and Jodie Moule's talk on bringing in more behavioural analysis when user-testing. In a nice post-event combo, here's a blogpost from Matt picking up on Jodie's thoughts.
Also useful was Suze Ingram's overview of prototyping tools.
